Leader Conversations
A couple of weeks ago I had breakfast with a young man who had a burning question for me. He had a career with significant leadership responsibilities and was wrestling with one aspect of his calling. His question went like this, “People have told me it is impossible today to serve at high levels of leadership in our country and maintain your integrity and good character. What do you think?”
The young man was told it was impossible! Impossible? Bologna! Yes, it is absolutely challenging and difficult. But nothing is too difficult with the Lord. I reminded him of leaders like Joseph, Daniel, Nehemiah and Esther who served at the highest levels of leadership with great integrity. In fact, their times of turmoil were far more challenging than in the USA. I told him the story of modern day leaders I know who serve with great distinction and integrity.
In God’s Kingdom callings, CHARACTER MATTERS!! Please pray for this young man. Please pray God will continue to raise up the next generation of modern day statesmen and stateswomen, military officers, journalists, scientists, economists, CEO’s and entrepreneurs. Pray our next generation of Jesus followers will lead with strong character as BRANCHES CONNECTED TO THE VINE. May the older generation not get so jaded and negative that we convey to the next generation of leaders that it is impossible to honor God in turbulent times.
Where God calls, He equips. God sovereignly is raising up a new generation for such a time as this. “For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to give strong support to those whose heart is blameless toward him” (2 Chronicles 16:9).
Louisiana Special Session
The Special Veto Override Session turned out to be a one-day event at the Capitol in Baton Rouge. These pressure cooker events always provide lots of opportunities to pray with leaders including the Speaker of the House, President of the Senate and many Legislators.
Forcey Bible 90th Anniversary
My home church, Forcey Bible Church, is celebrating their 90th Anniversary the weekend of September 22-24. I had the privilege of pastoring at this church for 15 years and am now one of their missionaries. Donna and I have been part of this ministry for over 45 years. On Saturday, September 23, I will be speaking at 9am at the Missions Breakfast and leading a Workshop at 11am. I will be joining the other pastors at 8pm for a “tent style” meeting just as Dr. Forcey did 90 years ago. Donna and I will be joining the New Community and Agape Fellowship Gatherings on Saturday afternoon to catch up with everyone. We hope to see many of you at Forcey in Silver Spring.
Prayer Breakfasts
It was a joy to participate in the 10th annual Covington Community Prayer Breakfast at St. Paul’s sponsored by the Kiwanis Club. The keynote speaker was former NFL Player and Tulane coach, J.J. McCleskey. He did a great job speaking on SEEK YE FIRST. Pray for our next Prayer Breakfast on
August 18th with Steve Green, CEO of Hobby Lobby, as the keynote speaker. I look forward to spending some time with Steve after I pick him up at the airport. Pray for the Gospel to be proclaimed.
