In a year with celebrations few and far between, please join us in celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the founding of Capitol Commission Louisiana/Grace Adventures.
At the beginning of 2011 Donna and I launched this ministry to reach out to leaders and influencers in the political community as well as in the business and faith community. Taking the love of Jesus and the Word of God into the Capitol and boardrooms is an incredible privilege. Building a relational foundation, we have utilized Bible studies, discipleship groups, one-on-one appointments, phone calls, social media, emails, prayer, texts, Zoom, speaking opportunities, retreats, prayer breakfasts, etc. to encourage leaders to take next steps with God and spiritual growth.
Our prayer is that this ministry remains as a life-changing, trusted voice of faith to leaders in Louisiana and beyond for decades to come.
Many thanks to the members of the Board of Directors who have served with us since the first day: Chairman Fred Miller, Vice-Chairman Jim Cole, James Meier, Scott Boudreaux, Greg Beck and Earl Bollinger. Many thanks to our ministry supporters, including the vast majority being on the team for the entire ten years. Many thanks to those who have undergirded this ministry in prayer and faithfully obeyed 1 Timothy 2:1-4.
Our original plan was to offer a February event to celebrate the work of God’s hand during these past ten years and to hear testimonies from leaders whose lives have been changed. Due to COVID-19 this event will have to wait. However, our gratitude offered to God cannot wait. To God be the glory. To God be ALL the glory, great things hath He done.
The old saying goes, “If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans.” I have pondered the sovereign hand of God in bringing me to Louisiana almost twenty-two years ago. For most of our lives, Donna and I lived in the Washington, DC area. I will never forget the unexpected call that came from Louisiana, “We have your resume. Can you send us a packet of information?” I wondered who are these people? Through a whole series of miraculous events it became clear we were to be in Louisiana. So many good things have flowed out of those small steps of faith.
Ten years ago, when starting this ministry, I wrote these words about our wild and adventurous God:
“God has stirred my nest once more. God, like an eagle with young, claws out the fur, leaves and soft comfortable materials and exposes the briars, sticks and thorns (Deut. 32:11). Like Momma Eagle, God prodded me to flight so that in time I could soar on wings of eagles (Isaiah 41:31). My new assignment is to lead a new ministry… Bible-based, Christ-centered, Grace-motivated and Kingdom-focused dedicated to transforming our world for Christ, one leader at a time. No longer will I pastor one church but will pastor at large in the community. George McCloud said, “I simply argue that the cross be raised again at the center of the marketplace as well as on the steeple of the church, I am recovering the claim that Jesus was not crucified in a cathedral between two candles: But on a cross between two thieves; on a town garbage heap; At a crossroad of politics so cosmopolitan that they had to write His title in Hebrew and in Latin and in Greek… And at the kind of place where cynics talk smut, and thieves curse and soldiers gamble. Because that is where He died, and that is what He died about. And that is where Christ’s men ought to be, and what church people ought to be about.”
Prayer Requests
- Significant numbers of leaders and friends have COVID-19, some with quite serious symptoms. Pray for the sick and wisdom in navigating this worldwide virus.
- The Governor’s Prayer Breakfast and the National Prayer Breakfast will both be virtual this year. Pray these events may be used in greater ways than ever.
- The Legislative Session will be gearing up soon. Pray for the Bible studies to flourish in Baton Rouge.
- Pray for my preparation for the two retreats that I will be leading this year with military officers.
- Pray for wisdom as we minister in times of deep division, distrust, cancel culture and animosity. Pray we continue to boldly preach Christ and the cross of Christ.
