Lord, I Need You … Oh, I Need You … Every Hour I Need You

Posted on 04/17/18 by Michael Sprague

Easter is a week removed but RESURRECTION POWER lasts. The resurrection is either the most wicked, heartless hoax ever foisted on the human race or it is the most remarkable fact of history. It is either a myth or hinge point. You can’t have some namby-pamby middle ground. It is either true and mind-blowing or utterly false and shattering. In I Corinthians 15:13-19 Paul says, “if Jesus is still dead, we are still in our sins, faith is silly, preachers are liars, there is no hope for the dead and believers are most to be pitied.” There is no Christianity with a perpetually dead Messiah.

However, the resurrection is a game-changer. Indeed, the women said, “He is not here, he is risen from the dead just as he said he would.” On the third day blood flowed through his veins, his heart was beating, breathing resumed, he stretched his arms and walked out of the tomb for all to see. The rescue mission was completed.  He started a revolution that as Martin Luther King stated, “There is a certain kind of fire that no water hoses can put out.”

I know, that I know, that I know, HE IS RISEN. HOW DO I KNOW THAT? At age 17 I trusted Him for my salvation. He saved me. He said if I meditated on Scripture I’d grow. I have. He said He’d lead me. He has. He said He gave me gifts and He would use me. He has. He said when tempted He’d provide a way of escape. Every time. He said when I sin He’d forgive me. Yes indeed. He said when I am faithless He would be faithful. Yes again. He said He’d supply my every need. He has and more. He said when I shake upon the rock, the Rock wouldn’t shake under me. It’s true. Yes, Yes and Yes. I can say, He is risen!!!

In the work of Capitol Commission Louisiana/Grace Adventures I rely upon this resurrection power daily to see changed lives and transformed hearts. Only the power of God can disarm strongholds, tear down rivalries, mend brokenness, bring life out of death and cause light to expel the darkness. There are many chilling things going on in politics today. The work is impossible without the power of God. Nevertheless, in light of the resurrection, Paul said, “Be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing your work is not in vain in the Lord.”

Prayer Requests

  • Pray for the major outreaches: Representative Steve Scalise will be speaking at an event in Jefferson Parish; Senator Cassidy will be speaking in Covington; the National Prayer Breakfast event in the Senate Chamber which I am coordinating; and the Pearl River Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast where I will be speaking.
  • Pray for the eleven Bible studies I lead, for-one on-one appointments this month and three Leader Faith Forums which I teach.
  • Pray for Legislators amid a rigorous Session that is necessitating the resolution of huge issues.
  • Pray for leaders who are revolutionizing serving in the community in criminal justice, addictions recovery, law enforcement, domestic violence, and work for felons, etc. It is a joy to see leaders become Kingdom leaders in their areas of expertise and calling.
  • Pray for a friend who has finished a year of interior renovation and discipleship and is ready once again for the world of politics.

A Personal Merry Christmas Note from Michael and Donna

Posted on 12/16/17 by Michael Sprague

John Steinbeck’s novel, The Grapes of Wrath, tells of the fierce dust storms that roared across the plains in farming communities during the Depression era. The topography allowed people to see the storms approaching from miles away. Families would gather in the yards, sometimes three generations, to evaluate the severity of the storm and how to respond. The young people didn’t stare at the storm but stared into the eyes of their elders to gauge whether to panic or be calm. Hopeful eyes triggered courage and determination.

Nothing has changed since the dust bowl days in Oklahoma. The world faces the whirlwinds of pluralism, terrorism, a fickle economy, family crisis and polarization. We live in a fear-based culture for sure. Many are looking at the horizon and are trying to gauge whether to live in hope or fear. When they look into the eyes of leaders and Christ-followers, what will they see? FEAR or FAITH? DESPAIR or HOPE? People are looking into our eyes!

My wish for every person is that they live in confidence and hope by knowing the height, depth and breath of the love of Jesus.

Our ministry with Capitol Commission and Grace Adventures stays focused on Jesus. We feel a great calling to reach out to leaders, especially elected leaders. We pray for a revolution of hearts and minds in our capital communities through the person of Jesus Christ and the power of the Word of God. The harvest is plentiful. The opportunities are everywhere. By God’s grace our best days are still ahead.

Please Pray for ..

  • Revitalization and renewal in the United States of America. There was a first great awakening. Why can’t there be another one? Jesus is God and with Him all things are possible. I want to be part of the next move of God.
  • New Partners in the work of Capitol Commission Louisiana. No emotional appeals or fundraising tactics. If you are looking for a Kingdom place to invest, if our work registers with you in deep ways, c’mon and jump in with support, service or prayer.
  • Open doors to speak on the topic, “Is There Hope For America?”, “The History of Christianity in America” or “Jesus: Who Is He?” Maybe you, your church or group will be one of the answers to this prayer!!

Financial Update

I have not mentioned finances since last December. The core of the ministry has been supported by people making monthly commitments to GRACE ADVENTURES, and this has been supplemented by one-time gifts. I am grateful. As a faith-based ministry, I am responsible to raise all of my monthly support.

Thank you

Donna and I would not be able to strategically focus this way without friends who partner with us in prayer, encouragement and support. It is a great honor to share this ministry with you. We are most grateful. YOU play a huge role in every business person who finds faith … every lonely leader who is encouraged … every person who is reminded not to quit … every seed sown … every political leader who discovers Jesus is worth following … every revitalized soul who discovers their purpose. Paul put it this way in Philippians 4:17, “Not that I seek the gift itself, but I seek for the profit which increases your account.”

My Birthday Milestone – Completed 60th Trip Around the Sun!

Posted on 10/17/17 by Michael Sprague

Wow! I feel like a 30-year-old, look like a 40-year-old (ha), sometimes act like an 18-year-old, but I checked my driver’s license today and it said I was 60! Yes, 60! 60 trips around the sun. Where does the time go?

I reflect this day on how rich I am … Rich toward God, my wife, my son and daughter-in-law, grandson, my mom and family and blessed with many great friends. Life has had its bumps and bruises, but God orchestrates my path. Jesus apprehended me at 17 years of age and redeemed me by His grace. I had my plan, but He wrote a better story. At times I have wondered about His script, but I’m glad I didn’t miss the greater adventures. I don’t know the future plan, but I will BET THE FARM ON GOD.

I’m convinced that out of the seven+ billion people on planet Earth, God cares about me personally. I am a most cherished son of the Most High God. I walk into the future with confidence, believing my best days are still ahead. Daniel at 85 influenced governments. Caleb at 85 was still taking on giants and claiming one more mountain. John Wesley at 88 still preached and traveled thousands of miles on horseback. Billy Graham is 99 and continues to influence many. Moses wasn’t even called into service until he was 80, and John wrote Revelation in his 90’s. Youth has its advantages, but so does age and experience. I may be starting my Fourth Quarter, but I’m convinced my best days are still ahead.

Jim Downing, 104, spoke to our Capitol Commission Ministers.

When life finally comes to an end one day on this side, it will in no way be the end of the story. In fact, as C. S. Lewis puts it, all the adventures we have ever had will end up only being “the cover and title page.” Only then will begin “Chapter One of the Great Story, which no one on earth has read, which goes on forever; in which every chapter is better than the one before.” THIS IS MY CONFIDENT EXPECTION AND HOPE … THEREFORE, I CHOOSE TO LIVE TO THE HILT EVERY SITUATION I BELIEVE TO BE THE WILL OF GOD.

  1. It has been a busy October with speaking opportunities and a key meeting. God has opened doors of opportunity. You can see the full schedule on this website under “SCHEDULE.”

2. I recently met with our Capitol Commission Chaplains from states around the country. It was exciting to know that there are now chaplains from 20 nations around the world, including Israel and Venezuela.

Jim Daly, President of Focus on the Family

3. Men’s lives are changing at the Giving Hope Retreat Center. I take men with me monthly to invest in other men. One man I have been working with may soon start working in ministry.

4. Pray for my time teaching at the Forcey Men’s Retreat, Capitol Commission Missouri Banquet, Leader Faith Forums and Bible studies.
